Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM Thursday, August 25, at St. James Catholic Church for William F. Bogumil, Sr., age 71, of Rainbow City, who died Saturday August 20, 2011. Father Gray Bean will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Bogumil was born and grew up in Illinois and moved to Alabama around 1976. He had been a volunteer fireman in Alsip, Illinois and worked as a project engineer in the metal decorating industry. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sophie Bogumil.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggie Bogumil; daughters Joan Mathews and Christina Chaney; son William Bogumil, Jr.; Grandchildren Justin Moffett, Amory Moffett, and Jared Moffett; great grandson Kincaid Moffett; Brothers Tom Bogumil, Jack (Sue) Bogumil, and Bob (Judy) Bogumil; and several nieces and nephews, some of which noted him as their favorite uncle.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Jessica Howard Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Alabama Teachers Credit Union, 702 Walnut Street, Gadsden, AL 35901.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Amedysis Hospice, Tia Horton, Kim Kelly, Dr. Windsor and his staff, and the Chemo nurses of the 5th floor at Trinity Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 until 8pm.
