Funeral service will be noon on Thursday, Nov. 20, at Crestwood Chapel for William B. (Sparky) Kennedy, age 101, who passed away November 17, 2014. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Brother Frank Samuels will officiate and Masonic Rites will be by Glencoe Lodge #846. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mr. Kennedy was a founder and charter member of North Glencoe Baptist Church at the location that is presently College Heights Baptist Church and continued to worship at that location from 1950. He was a member of the Glencoe Masonic Lodge #846 since 1966. He had retired from Goodyear in 1972. He always enjoyed being outside and could always find something to do; planting a garden, picking up limbs, riding his lawn mower, and bush hogging his field. He had a great sense of humor and always had a story to tell. He always had a smile on his face. He loved life and loved time with friends, especially time spent at the Highway 278 Jacks. If you came to his house and the phone was off the hook he had taken time out for his nap.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jimmie Mae, parents Millie and Lee Kennedy, 7 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by four sons Clark (Barbara) Kennedy, Gary (Pat) Kennedy, Billy (Cheryl), and Boykin (Janet) Kennedy; grandchildren Bill (Nan), Tammy (Jay), Gary, Mitch (Leann), Matt (Nannette), Daks (Dana), Shannon, Charles (Brandy), Amy (Jason), Sonya (Daryl, Jay, Haley, and Jared; 14 Grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Bill, Gary, Mitch, Matt, Daks, and Charles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Harden, Lamar Leggett, Highway 278 Jack's Employees, and Dr. Maury Minton. Special Thanks to the 8th floor Special Care Nurses at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
The family will accept flowers or Memorials may be made to Glencoe Masonic Lodge #846.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 AM until the hour of service.
