Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Crestwood Chapel for Mr. W.G. "Jack" Mecham, of Gadsden, who died Sunday, April 21, 2012. The Rev. Frank Samuels will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge. As a young man, he delivered newspapers in East Gadsden for four years and became an Eagle Scout in Goodyear Troop 58. He played City League and American Legion Baseball, was an athlete at Gadsden High School and a member of the "G" Club. He was employed by Goodyear for almost 40 years in the Engineering Department. He loved to hunt, fish and stay on the river. He was vice president of the Goodyear Camp Ground in Cedar Bluff. He was a born-again Christian who attended College Heights Baptist Church. He was active in church work and served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, usher and greeter. He loved Jesus. He is survived by his wife, Melba Mecham; son, George (Janet) Mecham; daughter, Susan Griffith; stepdaughters, Connie (Charles) Wright and Naoma Sparks; brother, Bob (Millie) Mecham; grandchildren, Heath, Shaun, Taylor and Kara Beth; and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society , College Heights Baptist Church or your favorite charity in memory of him.
