Walter H. “King” Daughdrill, 82, of Gadsden, Alabama, met his Lord and Savior at home on October 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
King was born on April 8, 1944, to Walter A. and Ruth Daughdrill. He graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1965. King worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 30 years before retiring.
On February 28, 1979, King married the love of his life, Jane. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, built a beautiful life, and raised four children. Their love and partnership were at the heart of their family.
King was a longtime member of Noccalula Church of God, where he was part of the church family for most of his life. He served as a trustee and Sunday superintendent for many years. He also mentored many young men and made a lasting difference in their lives.
King had a love for adventure and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed riding horses and spent many memorable years riding throughout the Southeast with Jane by his side. He also had a passion for his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed riding with Jane, creating countless memories together. He took a trip of a lifetime across the United States through 22 states with Jane and his son, Stacey.
King was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and Ruth Daughdrill, and two brothers, Robert and David.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 57 years, Jane Daughdrill; four children, Angie Persch (Bob), Stacy Daughdrill, James Daughdrill (Nicki), and Amanda Lewis (JC); 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his presence.
King will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family, adventurous spirit, faithful service, and the memories he created with those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Alan Waid, Garron Waid, Bob Persch, David Daughdrill Jr., Clifford Hill, and Danny Isom. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Wall and Charles Allen.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt special thank-you to Aveanna Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided to King and his family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m., with Jack Smith and Allen Hughes officiating. Graveside services will follow at Crestwood Cemetery.
Though he is no longer with us, the memories of King’s life, his love for Jane and his family, and all the miles traveled together will remain forever cherished.
