Viva "Sue" Parnell, age 79, passed away peacefully in her home on July 26, 2023. Her children were there to comfort her during the final days of her life. She is survived by her children, Stacy (David) Holt, Chris (Dana) Snyder, Brandon (Lori) Snyder, and Suzanne (Todd) Black. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two special pets, Beau and Sally. She was born December 21, 1943, in Calico Rock, Arkansas. She was the middle child of Richard and Sarah Parnell. The family lived in many places during her lifetime, moving to Gadsden in 1957. She graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1961. She married and had four children whom she was delighted in raising. Sue was talented in many areas such as cooking, sewing, gardening and even scuba diving and hunting. Her family was proud of her graduation from UAB at the age of 52 and subsequent employment at Children's Hospital. Sue spent her later years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her such pleasure. Sue was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice team, especially Brianna, Raven, and Greg. They were amazing in their care and support of the family. Pastor Cohen Ezelle will officiate the graveside service at Crestwood Cemetery on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 pm. Friends and family are welcome.
