Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, April 5th, 2016, at Crestwood Chapel for Vera South Brantley, 92, of Gadsden, who passed away on Thursday, March 31st, 2016.Rev. Rodney Poovey and Rev. Harvey Beck will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Brantley was born in Albertville, AL, and graduated from Douglas High School in 1941. She then attended Gadsden Business College. She was a bookkeeper locally in insurance and real estate offices as well as car dealerships. She retired from John Thomas Ford in 1983. Mrs. Brantley was a member at Bellevue United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Rosa Reagan's Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She was the secretary/treasurer of Pinedale Association from the late 1950s through early 1960s. She was a member of Mt. Laurel Garden Club, where she served as secretary/treasurer from the late 1950s through early 1960s. She was the Assistant Scout Leader of Brownie and Junior Troops 612 of the Cahaba Council in the 1960s. For many years she was the caregiver of her parents while raising her own family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Brantley; parents, Carl and Lois South; and brother, L.C. South.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Brantley (Dale) Bigelow; sister, Frances (Ralph) Campbell; grandson, Jason (Sonya) Bigelow; granddaughter, Jenifer (Joe) Lovvorn; great-grandsons, Jacob Bigelow, and Jackson and Landon Lovvorn; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellevue United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Regency Pointe and Peace in the Valley; and Lou Ellen McGruder.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday.
