Obituary

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday for Thomas Harold "Hal" Smith, age 52, of Gadsden, who died Sunday September 13, 2009. Rev. Ben Edmondson will officiate. Entombment will be in Crestwood Mausoleum. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will be directing.
Hal was a graduate of Glencoe High school and played on the 1973 State Champion Football team. He attended Auburn University on an athletic scholarship and played football from 1975 to 1977. He was a member of the Auburn Football Lettermen Club. Hal loved animals and was involved in animal rescue. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Tom and Frankie Brown, and Matt and Nancy Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Blythe-Smith; Parents, Harold and Lurlene Smith; Sister, Linda S. (David) York; Nephews, Joseph Aaron York, Oxford, Miss. and Jake Adam (Sarah Skeen) York, Denver, CO; and his dearly loved pets, Killer, Rupert, and Twinkle.
Pallbearers will be Dani Bone, Greg Davenport, Ed Lett, Gary Lett, John Griffin, Jimmy Hicks, Randy Kerr, Phil Gargis, and David York.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Auburn Football Lettermen Club, Coach Ray Bullock, Coach Lyle Darnell, The 1973 Glencoe High school State Champion football team and cheerleaders, Rod Gray, John Eiland, Steve Black, and Dr, K.J. Shah.
The family will accept flowers, but would prefer memorials to the Auburn Football Lettermen Club, in Memory of Hal Smith, P.O. Box 828, Auburn, AL 36831or the Etowah County Humane Society
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12:00 AM until the hour of service.
