Thomas "Eddie" Skaggs passed away at his home on May 28, 2025 surrounded by his loving family after an 18 month long battle with malignant melanoma. A funeral service will be held 1 pm Saturday May 31, at Crestwood Funeral Home, officiated by his pastor, Rev. Adam Smith. The family will have a private burial.
Eddie was born on Feb 16, 1948 to Henry and Nell (Flarity) Skaggs in Fort Payne, AL. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1966. He also graduated from Gadsden State and Snead State Community Colleges. He was honored to have served in the U S Air Force for four years mainly at McChord Air Force base in Washington State.
He was proud to have worked with the United States Postal Service for 42 years. He worked his last 13 years at the Glencoe Post Office where he served the community with a smile and made many friends.
He was a devoted father and loyal friend. He was known for his quick wit and generosity. Eddie was a man devoted to his God, his family, and his country. He lived his life to the fullest enjoying fishing, hunting, and golfing, and supporting Alabama Football, but he was most passionate about supporting his children and grandchildren in everything they chose to participate. He served with the Etowah Baptist Disaster Relief Team where he and Donna traveled many miles serving in disaster stricken areas. He was a member of the Etowah Baptist Wheelchair Ramp Team. Eddie became a Christian at the age of 12 at Bellevue Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of East Gadsden Baptist Church. He was always ready to serve and was a bold witness for his Lord.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Gregg Skaggs. Daughters: Robin and husband Glenn Phillips. Emily Skaggs (Bruce Taliaferro). His sons: Thomas Wade Skaggs and wife Holley. Grant Edward Skaggs and wife Cassie.
Eddie's legacy lives on through his 10 grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Tyler and Devan Phillips, Sawyer and Madison Phillips, Olivia Owens, Evan Owens, Thomas Skaggs, Keller Skaggs, Charlee Skaggs, Vila Taliaferro, Easton Skaggs, and Victoria Taliaferro; all of Gadsden
Eddie had 6 beautiful great grandchildren: Eliza, Tucker, Gunner, Holden, Wilder, and Lorelei Phillips. Sister: Henrietta Willbanks, Fyffe, Al Brothers: Charlie and his wife Vera Skaggs, Gadsden AL. Alan and his wife Connie Skaggs, Carrollton, GA. Brothers-in-law: Danny and wife Susan Gregg, Northport, AL and Dewayne and wife Kim Gregg, Cedar Bluff, AL, Joey Owens, Glencoe, AL and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be his 6 grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be G.W. Campbell, Jon Phillips, Jerry Hart, and members of his Sunday School Class at East Gadsden Baptist Church.
The family requests no flowers, but donations may be made to the Etowah Baptist Disaster Relief Team. 853 Walnut Street Gadsden AL 35901
Eddie will be truly missed by his wife and family. Until we meet again.
The family will recieve friends at the funeral home Saturday may 31,2025, from 11 am until the time of service
