Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Thelma A. Chavies, 84, Southside, who died Wednesday, March 18, 2009.Rev. Bob Thornton will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.
Thelma devoted her life to family, friends and her church. She lived her life to honor her savior, Jesus Christ, as evidenced by her thoughtfulness and charity towards others above herself.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years: Elbert Chavies; parents: Denson and Evie Arrington; six brothers: Junior (Lorene), Ed, Emmett, J.W., Perry and James.
She is survived by her daughter: Connie (Jimmy) Leftwich, sons: Phillip and Keith Chavies; grandchildren: Nichole and Michael Anne Kell, Tara (Joe) Donaldson; step-grandchildren: Lynn, Todd (Misty), Mindy Leftwich; step-great-grandchildren: Andrew, Saul Leftwich, Justin Fells; sisters-in-law: Estelle and Jo Arrington; brother-in-law: Buck (Carol) Chavies; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks to Estelle Arrington, Sarah Booth, Virginia Lee Cash, Joyce Gilbreath, Church Family at Edgewood Baptist Church and the Evergreens; Dr. Kwan, Dr. Sinha, Caregivers at Riverview Regional Medical Center and the Long Term Acute Care Hospital at St. Vincent's East; also to her family physician: Dr. John Keithan and office staff.
Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home.
