Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, March 19th, at Crestwood Chapel in Gadsden for Steven "Steve" Martin, 68, of Tuscaloosa and formerly of Gadsden, who died Sunday, March 15th, 2015. Rev. Ken Donaldson will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Steve loved sports. His life revolved around sports from his avid collection of baseball cards, programs, and anything to do with baseball. He tried to attend every Baron's game and he followed high school sports statewide. He was a well-respected sports journalist, having worked at Gadsden Times, Birmingham News, and Tuscaloosa News. He also was an avid Alabama football fan. He was an army veteran serving as an MP. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marguerite Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gail; daughters, Lisa Martin and Lori (Tyler) Bostick; grandchildren, Hollie Swann and Jordan Oden; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Micah, Luke, Oliver and Christian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Robert Humphreys, Tyler Bostick, David Lilly, and Jedge Daniel.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of West Alabama, and Hunter Creek Health and Rehab.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 PM until the time of the service.
