Obituary

Graveside funeral services will be held for Sidney "Sid" Keith Elliott, 62, at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Ala. Fr. Gray Bean will officiate.
Born and raised in Gadsden and a resident of Florence, Ala., Sid was described as a compassionate and highly skilled nurse who was a vocal advocate for patients and nursing. He dedicated over 35 years to his profession of serving others. An aficionado of all things beautiful, Sid was an avid painter, photographer, gardener, musical enthusiast and animal lover. Sid never met a stranger and always had a bright smile, a wisecrack and an open heart to greet you. He was a devoted and beloved husband and father, a fiercely loyal friend, and an esteemed nurse who cared for all. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Sid was preceded in death by parents, Oscar Carl and Mildred Enola Elliott; numerous aunts and uncles; beloved friend, MaryBeth McDade; several cherished canine companions.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marye; son, Dillon (Allison); daughter, Claudia; chosen brother, Tim Smith (David Hawkins); brothers, James Ormond (Mary) and Carl Gary Elliott; chosen sister, Lila Stapler; numerous cousins and relatives; his beloved Boston Terriers, Lucy, Bobo and Annie; and a herd of deer.
Special friends: Leza Duncan, Jeffrey Simpson, Mary Ellen and John Campbell, Chris and Terry Preston, Alicia Hatmaker, Mike and Carol Gladden, among others.
Pallbearers, Dillon Elliott, Tim Smith, Keith Elliott, Elliot Thorn, Andy Chen and Alex Chen.
Honorary pallbearers, David Smith, Jeff Ekholm, Russell Pigg, Kevin Bowling, the Lauderdale and Colbert County EMA offices, Florence Police, Fire and Rescue Departments, all other first responders and surrounding agencies, and employees of Eliza Coffee Memorial hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to any of the Humane Societies of Greater Alabama, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Tennessee Valley Art Association or any charity of your choice .
The family will hold a Memorial Service at their home in Florence on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 1 until 5 p.m.
