On Friday, August 11, Selton D. Long, 94 years of age, of Rainbow City, passed from this life into the presence of Jesus after a brief illness. He was a faithful man of God who studied his Bible and attended church regularly, if he was physically able to do so. If you ever heard him lead a prayer, you heard him say – "Dear Lord, help us live in such a way that when the time comes, we will hear you say, "Well Done thou good and faithful servant...enter into the joys of the Lord." Matthew 25:23
Selton was born on December 21, 1928, in Blount County, Alabama and he was the oldest of 10 children. As of December 31, 2022, he was married to his high school sweetheart of 73 years, Betty Honeycutt Long, who passed on April 6, 2023. Selton was employed by Republic Steel, LTV Steel, and Gulf State Steel. After retirement, he delivered parts for different machine shops as well as O'Reilly's in Rainbow City, where he was employed for over 10 years. Mr. Long served his country in the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1956. He loved his God, family, and country and always had the American flag displayed outside his home. He was a member of Rainbow Church of Christ.
Selton is preceded in death by his loving wife Betty, his parents Chalmus and Ruby Long, brothers Gene, Weyman, Max, Billy, Theron, Arron, Bobby and his only sister, Martha Lowe.
He is survived by daughter, Belinda Seahorn (Danny) and Jerolyn Long. His grandchildren are Ben Brooks (Lydia), Daniel Brooks, Todd Nelson (Laina) and Hannah Guthery. He has 5 great grandchildren, Hunter, Jackson, and Bastion Brooks and Lillie and Allie Kate Nelson. He is also survived by his youngest brother, Gerald Wayne Long of Georgia, sisters-in-law, Martha Spurlock of Pensacola, Florida and Carolyn Hitt of Hanceville, Alabama, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 14 at Rainbow Church of Christ beginning at 2:00 pm with a visitation time beginning at 12:00 noon to time of service.
