IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Scarlet Jan
Bowman
April 4, 1950 – November 9, 2024
Scarlet Jan "Granny" Bowman, 74, born on April 4, 1950 in Gadsden, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 9, 2024 surrounded by her friends and family. Granny, as she was most well-known, is the daughter of the late Guy E. Armstrong and Evelyn Irene Bartlett Armstrong. Granny is preceded in death by her soul mate, James "Big Jim" Bowman, stepson, James "Jay" Bowman, Jr., sisters, Barbara Brown (Billy), Claudia Blanks (Troy), and a brother, Allen Armstrong.
She is survived by her sisters, Dianna Grant (Guy, Jr), Becky Chumley, and Rhonda Carr (Phillip), her sons, Shannon Watson, Jonathan Bowman (Christen), and Richard "Buck" Alford(Danielle), a stepdaughter, Amy Turner (Neil), and grandchildren Britni Hoyt (Andrew), Tyler Watson, and Hayden Turner. Jan is also survived by her life-long best friend and sister, Carolyn Boatfield.
After growing up in Etowah County and graduating from Emma Sansom High School in 1968, she went on to create a beautiful family, a career in customer service, and wonderful memories that would always give her a good laugh. Quilting, gardening, watching crime dramas and loving on all her fur babies were her favorite hobbies. Granny devoted her time to The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail where she became a part of the Silver Lakes family, who she frequently mentioned in the many stories she told. One of her proudest moments was when she was awarded the "White Glove" Service Award in 2018, a prestigious recognition for her homemade cookie recipes that are still used on The Trail today.
Jan always enjoyed a competitive day on the water and showed the boys who was boss by catching more fish from the "wrong side" of the boat. She loved her Crimson Tide and played a crucial role in the dynasty that stands today. Roll Tide!
Granny will be missed by all who knew her. A beautiful soul who left her mark on this small town in Alabama.
A special thank you to Natalie at Gadsden Health and Rehab, for being a beautiful friend.
