Obituary

The visitation for Sarah Parnell Mitchell, 95, of Rainbow City, will be at White Springs Baptist Church from 12-1; with a celebration of life service following in the church auditorium at 1 p.m. Bart Watts and Chris Terrell are officiating.

Sarah Parnell Mitchell was the seventh of eight children born on a family farm in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas on December 29, 1923. Sarah moved to Gadsden in 1959 with her husband and three children: Kathy, Sue, and Larry. In 1960 she graduated from Kate Compton's Beauty School and began a career as a beautician she cherished her friendships with her customers. In 1990 she began a silk floral business which she continued until 9 weeks ago. She especially loved making floral arrangements for friends whose family members had passed on. It was important to her that a family member was remembered and honored. Sarah was a warm, endearing person with a great sense of humor and witty personality. She loved everyone and always had an encouraging word. She was a longtime member of White Springs Baptist Church, the last few years being involved with the Encourager Ministry. She was also an active member of the Rainbow City Senior Citizens Club, where she enjoyed great fellowship and a game of Skip Bo.

Sarah is preceded in death by her daughter Kathy and her son Larry.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Parnell. She has five grandchildren: Stacy (David) Holt, Chris (Dana) Snyder, Brandon (Lori) Snyder, Suzanne (Todd) Black and Jerry Parnell. She has twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren that she loved dearly and prayed for often.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church missions fund to support Samaritans Purse Shoe Box Ministry.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Alacare Hospice and the caring hands of Kayla and Elisabeth.
