Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ragland Methodist Cemetery for Mr. S. J. "Rabbit" Hare, 94, Glencoe, who died Friday, March 20, 2009. The Rev. Bill Harbison will officiate. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Hare was a charter member and deacon at Eastside Baptist Church. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. After retiring, he helped his good friend Doug Alford as a sheetrock finisher. He also officiated high school basketball for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Tom; parents, Amos and Ellen Hare; five sisters; seven brothers; and son-in-law, George Hudson.
He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Hudson and Mary Ellen (Gary) Couch; sons, Clyde (Kay) Hare and Thomas "Cakie" (Mary Ann) Hare; grandchildren, Gay (Jerry) Ingram, Georgianna Hudson, Thomas Farley Hare, Thomas (Brenda) Hare, Jr., Carla (Rusty) Jones, Teresa (Craig) Kelly, Timothy Hare, Tabitha (Rusty) Howard and Lance Couch; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eastside Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2215, East Gadsden, AL 35903.
Pallbearers will be family.
Honorary pallbearers will be staff and friends at Meadowood Retirement Village.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
