In honor and celebration of the life of the Rev. Ron Jones, a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Crestwood Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Ronald Warren Jones, of Birmingham, received his heavenly healing, Friday, March 6, 2009, and is serving his Heavenly Father now fulltime in his new home.
Ron was diligently faithful to his wife of 40 years, his children and his God. He dedicated his life to children and families and served for more than 20 years in various churches in children's ministry. Most recently, Ron served as children's pastor, along with his wife, Rhonda, at Point of Grace Ministries. He had a passion for the young people of this generation. God instilled a vision in Pastor Ron for the Generation As Promised, the G.A.P. Kids, for the restoration of families and the training of children and teens to minister in God's calling and purpose for their lives. With the heart of an evangelist, he also reached out to the inner-city children of Birmingham.
Ron also worked in the electrical industry as a member of IBEW Local Union 136 for 40 years. The family is very thankful to his brothers at 136 for their thoughts, prayers and monetary support.
Ron is survived by his wife, Rhonda; son, Matthew (Jamie) Jones; grandson, Hayden; granddaughter, Synja; brothers Donnie Jones and Jimmy Jones; sister, Mary Ellen Pruitt; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded by his son, Dwane Jones; and his parents, James Floyd Jones and Ellen Rose Klepsig Jones.
Pallbearers include Eddie Coleman, Don Dean, Kerry Gladden, Jackie Goodwin, Rodney Gray and Joe Martin.
The memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Dusty Hammock, Pastor Gary Craft and Pastor Garth Forster. Music will be provided by the Point of Grace worship team. It is our desire to honor Ron's life and give glory to God.
In lieu of flowers, the family will receive donations to Ron Jones Memorial Fund. Make checks payable to Point of Grace Ministries, 500 Commons Drive, Birmingham, AL 35209
Rhonda wishes to express sincere gratitude to her parents, Loyd and Arlene Gladden, for their untiring support. The family expresses much appreciation to the intercessors of Point of Grace and all family and friends for their daily prayers. A special thanks to the staff of Wiregrass Hospice for their compassion and care. Ron battled courageously for five months with GBM brain cancer "fighting the good fight of faith."
