Ronald Clarence Higgins passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the age of 75. After years of declining health, Ronald died peacefully with his loving wife Angie and his son James by his side.
Ronald was born in Gadsden on November 6, 1946, to father Clarence Edwin Higgins and mother Jewel Irene Ford. He received his B.A. and M.A. from The University of Alabama. He received his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law at Sanford University. He worked for many years as a Court Referee of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Alabama.
During his life, Ronald was an active musician, fisherman, and lifelong learner. He enjoyed serving as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Gadsden where among his duties he would perform the music at the Kiwanis Club meetings and each year at Kiwanis Pancake Day. He was an active member of Rainbow Fly Fishing Club and was recently made an honorary lifetime member of the club. An avid learner, Ronald prided himself on his membership in the Mensa International society. Ronald enjoyed performing on the organ every Sunday at Attalla First United Methodist Church for many years. Ronald was also a lifelong supporter of Alabama Crimson Tide Football.
Ronald is survived by his wife Angie Castleberry Higgins, son James Higgins, and niece Kelly Killian. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Jewel Higgins, in-laws James and Ovell Castleberry, and sister-in-law Teresa Killian.
A visitation for Ronald is planned for Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 7pm to 9pm at Crestwood Memorial at 2209 East Broad Street, Gadsden, AL. Funeral service will be held Friday May 27, 2022, at 1pm. All are invited to attend.
People wishing to honor Ronald may send flowers to Crestwood Memorial or make donations to Attalla First United Methodist Church Choir, the Salvation Army, or the Etowah Youth Symphony Orchestra.
