Robert C. "Bob" Burke, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday October 26, 2010. Funeral Services will be at Crestwood Funeral Home at 11:00am Thursday, October 28. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Bros. Jack Campbell and Jeff Sauls will be officiating. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Bob was born December 4, 1936. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1955. He spent four years in the United States Air Force. He married Linda Igou on July 17, 1965. He graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1975. He was employed by the United States Government for almost 30 years, with most of his time in the Motor Pool at Fort McClellan, AL. After his retirement, he worked at Grissom Honda, and then Pierson Chevrolet, until his illness.
Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bob and Linda were members of College Heights Baptist Church for 35 years, and reared their children there. Bob served as deacon and sang in the choir. In 1999, they moved to Coates Bend, and joined Macedonia Baptist Church. He served as deacon and Sunday School Director, and sang in the choir until his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents R.C. Burke, Sr. and Lula Mae Dooley Burke, and his in-laws Hosmer and Ruth Graham Igou.
He was survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Igou Burke; two daughters, Connie Burke and Tammy Burke Kilgo; one granddaughter Olivia Kilgo; brother in law Harold Igou (Dean); Niece Cindy Igou Ittner (Rick); Nephew Jeff Igou; great nieces and nephew Mackenzie, Blair, and Kyle Ittner; and numerous beloved cousins.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Macedonia Baptist Church. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their love and care.
Bob had requested no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Fund at Macedonia Baptist Church of Coates Bend, the Alzheimer's Association, or your favorite charity.
