Dr. Richard Allen Borders

1949 - 2020

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Dr. Borders practice dentistry in his home town of Birmingham for a for a short while; and then chose Gadsden in the earlier years of his professional career as the place he would open his practice of Pediatric Dentistry. For over 30 years he cared for the dental needs of children in Gadsden and the surrounding area. He throughly enjoyed his practice and often commented that children where much better patients than adults. He demanded excellence of himself and anyone assisting him in his practice. A host of those who are adults today continue to benefit from that excellence. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Borders participated in and offered assistance to various dental mission endeavors as well as other philanthropic causes over the years.

Rick was an excellent golfer and spent many enjoyable days on the golf course both at the Gadsden Country Club and golf courses around the country. Anyone who played golf with Rick can attest to both his ability and love for the game of golf. They can also witness to the fact that he was an advocate of proper etiquette on the golf course which included proper attire. He did not hesitate to point that out to anyone who thought they could get by with wearing a T Shirt on the golf course instead of a golf shirt. In addition to golf, he was always ready for a good conversation about the Beatles.

Rick cared deeply for his family. He is survived by his loving wife Carol, two sons, Blake Borders (Loren) and David Borders, three daughters, Jamie Young (Justin) , Heather More, Hope Robertson, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Rev. Rod Borders.
