Obituary

Ray Steele, age 90, of Gadsden passed away on January 19th, 2024. Ray was born on September 27, 1933. Funeral services will be held at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery and Funeral Home on Monday, January 22nd, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00am and funeral will follow at 1:00pm in the chapel. Family members will conduct the services.
Ray was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved Alabama Football, cooking, traveling, and tending to his plants. He will be remembered for his humbleness, mild nature, and his unconditional love.
Ray proudly served in the United States Navy. He later retired from the Gadsden Times and went on to own and operate his own printing shop, David's Printing, with his son David.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lunie Steele; His brothers, Fayette, Irby, Bud, and Earl; His sister, Edna; Brother-in laws, Donnie Smith, Jackie Alewine, Joe Barich, and Jimmy Corso; Sister-in-laws, Susie Alewine, and Janice Steele.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; His son, David (Chris) Steele; His daughter, Donna(Bobby) Bryant;
Sister, Edith Corso; Sister-in law, Willene Steele; Brother-in-laws, Kenneth Smith and Paul Smith.
Grandchildren, Trina(Zach) Phillips, Kerry(Caitlin) Steele, Brittany (Brad) Tuggle, Macy Bryant, Makinzy(Tyler) Gidley, Candy(Scott) Speakman; Nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many special nieces and nephews.
