Obituary

Phyllis Maxine Rollins Atkins formerly of Glencoe, Alabama passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, in LaGrange, Georgia. She was 92 years old. Phyllis was born March 2, 1932, to Chase and Helen Rollins in Gadsden, Alabama. In 1950, she married Joe Stanley Atkins.  They had two children: Pam Atkins Darden and Joe Stanley Atkins, Jr.

Phyllis was a Christian who always put God first in everything she did. She lived each day in His Word and Spirit. She prayed for her marriage, family, and friends constantly. Phyllis and her husband, Joe shared a long happy marriage and traveled extensively. As the family grew to include grandchildren, she became the official banana bread maker, game leader, Christmas program director, and trip planner. Her devotion to God and her family will be remembered most. Phyllis was a retired teacher and long time member of the United Methodist Church. She devoted much her life to sharing God's love with others through her profession and volunteer positions.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Joe Stanley Atkins, Sr., her son Joe Stanley Atkins, Jr., her siblings, and parents. She is survived by her daughter Pam Atkins Darden (John); 5 grandchildren Dee Adkins (Drew), Joey Atkins, Chase Darden (Beth), Lori Atkins, and Tyler Darden (Katie); and 7 great-grandchildren Grace Whidby, Quinn Darden, Josh Whidby, Noah Adkins, Anne Marie Adkins, John Henry Darden, and Josie Darden.
