Obituary

It is with deep sorrow we report the passing of Perry Wesley Gwin, Sr. on June 30, 2024, after a battle with Parkinson's, and Congestive Heart Failure. Perry was a devout Christian and an active member of East Gadsden Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir, fellowship, and participated in activities with the Senior Adults. He also loved playing rook with fellow Church Members. A special thank you to the ones who came to play rook with him while being homebound. He attended Hokes Bluff High School, where he played various sports and graduated in 1958. He held many positions with several organizations such as, Etowah Cattlemen's Association, Hokes Bluff City Councilman, and served as an Etowah County Commissioner for 8 years. He was a hard worker at the Steel Plant, working on and driving buses, and farming. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. Perry enjoyed talking to people and spreading joy with his jokes and shenanigans. He enjoyed fishing, playing rook, duck hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He was known by several different titles, which include, "Pepaw", "Apple Man", and "Cow Man." Perry had met a special friend, Ruth Wilson (Ruthie) while in rehab for Parkinson's. He started the conversation and she loved that his shoes were shined. They enjoyed each other's company for a year. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He is preceded in passing by parents, Carl and Grace Gwin of Hokes Bluff. Wife of 52 years, Linda Ruth Milling Gwin, sister Marcia Gwin Wright. He is survived by his sons, Perry Wesley "Wes" Gwin, Jr. and Matthew Carl Gwin(Olivia); sister, Marilyn Gwin Butler(Jack); brother-in-law, Edwin Wright; niece Elise Allen (Briggs); nephew, Darrel Butler (Heidi), grandson, Matthew "Cade'' Gwin (Alexis), late, Cali Gwin, and future, Houston Cade Gwin; great-nephews, Chris Haley (Melissa), Ben Haley, Caleb Butler (Abby) and Halston Butler.
