Obituary

Mitchell, Rev. Pella W. "Preacher"
Funeral Services will be at 2:00PM Sunday November 18 at Crestwood Chapel for Rev. Pella W. "Preacher" Mitchell, age 90 who left this world peacefully and comfortably entered Heaven Thursday November 15, 2007. Rev. David Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct.
Rev. Mitchell had preached for 70 years during the period of 1937 until 2007. Among the churches he had Pastored were Cherry Street Baptist in Attalla, Hurst Street Baptist in Gadsden, and Oak Park Baptist Church in Alabama City. He had served as an evangelist in the 40s and 50s having held revivals throughout North Alabama. He had a radio ministry in the 1950s and again from 1994 until 2006. Rev. Mitchell had retired from Pierson Chevrolet with 34 years of service and had been recognized with numerous awards and was a member of the Legion of Leaders.
Rev. Mitchell is preceded in death by his wife, Vernice R. Mitchell; son, Byron H.Mitchell; Brother, Mervis Mitchell; Sisters, Winnie Gay (Mitchell) Lassiter, Cleslie (Mitchell) Hill, Clora (Mitchell) Vaughn; Parents, Syon W. Mitchell and Ada Bean Mitchell.
He is survived by his Daughters, Shirley (Mitchell) Hale and her husband Terry Hale, Wanda (Mitchell) Scott and her husband Tommy Scott; Son Jerry W. Mitchell and his wife Sharon (Atkins) Mitchell; Wife, Opal (Beck) Mitchell; 8 Grandchildren, Tony Hale, Deidre Hale Jones, Tim Hale, Barry Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell Petre, Jerilyn Mitchell Swann, Sheree Scott Mangum, and Christoper Scott; 13 Great Grandchildren, Sidni Hale, Erik Hale, Trevor Hale, Devin Hale, Justin Hale, Michael Mitchell, Jerry Petre, John Petre, Josie Swann, Mitch Swann, Samantha Swann, Devin Mangum.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the Nurses and Staff on 8th and 9th Floor and CCU at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Dr. Sinha, Dr.Kwan, and Dr. Amin.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hale, Tony Hale, Tim Hale, Mike Lankford, Tommy Scott, Christopher Scott, Duane Jones The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5:00 until 7:00pm
