Funeral services will be 2pm Sunday at Crestwood Chapel for Pattie Smith, 76, Gadsden who passed away Thursday May 17, 2012. Dr. Craig Carlisle and Bro. Don Young will officiate with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Pattie, a Sand Mountain, AL native and long-time resident of Gadsden. She was known by many for her ability to connect with others. She was a relational person who was eager to share her experiences and recipes. Simply put Pattie loved people, food and the stories and memories associated with gatherings. Within minutes of meeting her one knew of her 30 years service to The Phone Company, her grandchildren, children, Travis, her husband of 56 years and beloved dog Skyler.
Pattie was a woman of strong determination, and devotion to family, friends and faith. She was an active member of Twelfth Street Baptist church where she fed both body and spirit through her service to Christ through Chapel Choir, Sunday School, Training Union, sponsoring summer Choir Tours, and Special Education adults. She enjoyed membership to both CWA and Pioneers where she held leadership positions. At least 2 decades worth of membership in The Gadsden Antique Automobile club and their annual fashion show was quite possibly the genesis of her love for dressing up. Pattie had a propensity for fashion and she valued her collection of clothes, jewelry and shoes. Yet, of her most valued treasures are her survivors to include her husband Travis, son Micheal (Jennifer) Smith, Oviedo, FL and daughter Leaellyn (TJ) McCarthy, Janesville, WI. Cherishing her memory are her grandchildren Jessica , Andrew, Corinne , Cormac, Bearach and Bryg .
During her lengthy illness she was cared for by her husband and McGuffey Nursing Home and Southern Hospice staff (Alix, Jamie, Stephanie, Stacy, Dr. A). They are to be commended for their dedication and compassionate service.
Pattie touched the lives of many people because of her genuine spirit. One always knew where they stood with her - no guessing required. Her family morns her absence yet celebrates the assurance of whom she is spending eternity Jesus, her mother, father, brother and a host of family and friends. Please join us as we celebrate Pattie's life and her home going.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8pm at Crestwood Funeral Home.
