Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11:00 for Patricia (Pat) Bynum Martin at Crestwood Funeral Home. Matt Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetary.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ottolene and J.C. Bynum; infant brother William Bynum; and sister in law Brenda Ford Bynum.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years David Martin, children Angie Reavis (Jonathan) Sanders, Chad Reavis, Jeff (Catherine) Martin, Justin Martin; grandchildren Harrison and Emma Catherine Martin; brother David Bynum and nieces.
Pat worked for Liberty National Life Insurance for 11 years. She went on to own a Garden shop and wholesale greenhouse business and then retired in 1994. She played volleyball at the highschool, college and club level and has been coaching or assigning volleyball since 1970. A charter member of Etowah County Volleyball Officials Association, she was elected President. In 1994, she helped establish the Alabama Board of Officials and she assigned college officials statewide. Pat went on to officiate several collegiate tournaments and matches as well as national events. She earned several regional and national officiating awards in her distinguished career. In 2004, Pat, along with her husband David and daughter Angie, started the Gadsden Volleyball Club. It was a "tremendous honor" for her to be inducted into the Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. She played ACBL Bridge and earned the status of Silver Life Master. She was also a Life Master Gardner.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Elquis Castillo and staff, Amedisys Hospice and MD Anderson hospital.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Justin Martin, Harrison Martin, Jonathan Sanders, Mike Haygood and Clint Chesnut.
