Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home for Oren E. "Rick" McCallie, 82, Gadsden, who died June 5, 2010. Associate Pastor, Dan Mattox, of The Tabernacle, will officiate. Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Rick was a WWII Navy Veteran, body shop foreman at Pierson Chevrolet in the 60's and 70's and retired from Goodyear in the late 80's. He attended The Tabernacle. Rick loved to dance the jitterbug at Rhea's Lake. He was a die hard Alabama football fan. He was also an avid outdoorsman who hunted, fished with the Goodyear Fishing club and trained Labrador Retrievers for several years.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Helen Ann "Sissy" Riddle; his parents Joseph Samuel and Lydia Melissa Elliott McCallie; his brothers and sisters; Lamar, Carl Edward, Samuel, Marie, Edna, Melba Ruth and Betty.
He is survived by sister; Barbara Harney, children; Mary Melissa (Reedy) Thacker, Jed Edward (Terri Watson) McCallie and Lou Ann (Mike) Wain, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Smith, James Teet, Daniel Thacker, Brandon Wain, Coti Herman and Zachary McCallie.
The family will receive friends from Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home.
