NINA REED JONES
A celebration service honoring the life of Nina Izona (Reed) Jones, age 94, who died on May 23, 2018, will be at Crestwood Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Gadsden, AL at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. The family will receive guests from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Rev. Jerald Adams will officiate the celebration service. Immediately following the service, there will be a short graveside service where Ms. Jones will be laid to rest in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. All family and friends are invited to attend both services. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
At the time of her death, Ms. Jones resided with her son's family in Madison, AL & passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She died of congestive heart failure. We celebrate her life and rejoice for her Heavenly rewards with Christ Jesus in her new home.
A native of Shelby County, AL, Nina was born to Levi Wiley and Elizabeth Tula (Whatley) Reed in September 1923 in Maylene, AL. She was raised in West Blocton, AL, and was a 1943 graduate of West Blocton High School. She was Vice President of her Sr. class, active member of the Drama Club, wrote for the school newspaper, played basketball and was on the track team. After graduation she moved to Alabaster, AL to work at the Firestone store and there she met her husband, Myron Earle Jones, of Shelby County.
She met and fell in love with Myron Earle Jones, Shelby County, AL, and they married on June 29, 1947 at Camp Branch Methodist Church in Siluria, AL. Following their wedding, they moved to Gadsden, AL where she raised her family and resided with her husband for over 58 years. Nina worked as the church secretary at Paden Baptist Church, Gadsden, AL and held numerous leadership and teaching positions, including the Director of Homebound, Personnel, and Memorial Committees. She was a lifelong member of Paden. She was charitable & worked with Meals-On-Wheels delivering meals to shut-ins. She was a member of the Gadsden Garden Club and enjoyed floral arranging. She was a loving & faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, devout Christian, artist, enjoyed cooking (her grandchildren's most notably dishes includes: corn-bread dressing, garden-fresh green beans, homemade chicken-fingers, corn bread, peaches & cream and sherbet with Sprite)& canning, loved big band music, and traveling. She enjoyed writing poems and chronicling travels with her husband. She was an avid sports fan and cheered for the Crimson Tide & Atlanta Braves.
She had a wonderful & full life, prided herself in her family & always looking her best, and was such a blessing to many. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, family gatherings, and she always loved celebrating Thanksgiving Day at her niece's home Debra (Foster) McElhaney, Atlanta GA.
Following the death of her husband in May 2005, she moved to Madison, AL in 2006 to be closer to her family and has been a resident of Madison, AL for the last 12 years.
Nina is preceded in death by her parents, Levi Wiley & Elizabeth Tula (Whatley) Reed, Gadsden, AL, and her husband, Myron Earle Jones, Gadsden, AL; brother(s) Cue Wiley Reed (Opal) and McKenneth Austin Reed (Mildred), Gadsden, AL; sisters, Dorothy Fay Foster (Vernon), Alabaster, AL, Lois Hughes (Marvin), Niceville, FL, Mildred Vernell "Boots" Tucker (Eugene) Hueytown, AL; nephew, Dale Ray Reed and niece, Faye Reed Dye (Randall), Gadsden, AL.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Myra Kaye Moon (Terry), Powder Springs, GA, son Vann Reed Jones (Terri), Madison, AL; 5 grandchildren, Walter Alan Moon, Douglasville, GA, Terry Trey Moon (Tanya), Marietta, GA, Katie E. (Jones) Hodges (Michael) Birmingham, AL, Jamie R. Jones, Madison, AL, & Kara E. Jones, Tuscaloosa, AL; 5 great-grandchildren, Kaylan & Tucker Moon, Douglasville, GA; Noah, Kathleen & Thompson Moon, Marietta, GA; 4 nieces, 5 nephews, 22 great-nieces/nephews & numerous cousins.
Pallbearers will be Alan Moon, Trey Moon, Dr. Marc McElhaney, Douglas Michalke, Jerry Rambin, Michael Hodges, Michael Nelson & Jerry Toney. Junior Casket Bearers will be Tucker Moon and Noah Moon.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jarmin Baxley, Chris Johnson, Lane Patridge (posthumously), and members of Paden Baptist Church.
The Rev. Jerald Adams will officiate the services, with Mr. John Burkett, soloist, and Mrs. Katie Hodges, flutist, select scripture readings by grandchildren, Trey Moon, Kara Jones, poem reading by Jamie Jones, and special memories by Alan Moon.
