Nathaniel James Smith, age 22, passed away January 29, 2026. The service will be officiated by Mark Price with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens, Alabama.
Nate was born Jan 6, 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Gadsden City High School, where he was an active and involved student until he graduated in 2022. He ran cross country, indoor track and played soccer. After high school, he attended UAH and was majoring in accounting. He was an active member in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, where he served their chapter as former housing chairman and former ritual chairman.
He enjoyed fishing, basketball, and video games with friends. He was an intelligent, hardworking, kind and funny young man. He is now living in heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Angie Smith, brother Andrew Smith, grandparents Dennis and Linda McMeans and Ethelwyn Smith; cousins Jason Lipscomb, Dylan McMeans; aunt/uncle Jennifer and Arnold Lipscomb.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Terry James Smith, and uncle Christopher McMeans.
Funeral will be at 11:30am on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Visitation will be February 7, 2026 for the family from 9:30-10am and the public from 10-11:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Dylan McMeans, Jason Lipscomb, Clark Lipscomb, Braden Garmon, Cooper Parker and Gavin Keller
Honorary Pallbearers are Nate's Fraternity Brother of Pi Kappa Alpha, Justin Lipscomb.
