Funeral services for Mrs. Myra Jane Brown, 86, Gadsden, who died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crestwood Chapel. The Rev. Diane Houser and Jim Berry will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral home is in charge of services. Myra was born in Tennessee and graduated from Lawrence County High School Class of 1943. She moved to Gadsden and attended Gadsden Business College. She started working at Alabama Cooperative Extension Services at the Etowah County Courthouse, where she remained a dedicated and loyal employee for more than 44 years. Myra was a proud lifetime member of East Gadsden Methodist Church. Until her death, she served as chairman of the worship committee. She was a member of the Berean Sunday School class and served on the administrative council. She was very active in the United Methodist Women's organization until she became ill, and served as the treasurer for the East Gadsden UMW for many years. Myra took great pride in her church, was a loyal prayer warrior and was dedicated to serving in any capacity she was needed with pride and dedication. She was caring, loyal and a source of encouragement for her family, friends and her church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Edith McDowell; husband, David "Dockie" Brown; and infant son, James Stephen Brown. She is survived by son David M. Brown Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special nephew, Jimmy Brown. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society , American Heart Association , American Diabetes Association or the East Gadsden United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service Saturday.
