Funeral mass will be at 2pm Thursday at Saint James Catholic Church for Michael Duane Blood. Father Gray Bean will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct. Michael Duane Blood was a resilient man, to say the least. His Bride of almost 41 years, Brenda Bouley Blood, sometimes would refer to him as her "Timex watch" because he would take a licking and keep on ticking. Family and friends were always in awe of Mike's appetite for living, despite all of the physical obstacles he faced in his everyday life. Mike faced his last obstacle on Monday, August 23, 2010 when he traveled all the way to heaven to be with Jesus and all of his many family and friends that were there waiting for him. Mike was a Marine and served his country in the Vietnam War. He was an active member of Saint James Catholic Church, where he always enjoyed worshipping the Lord with all of his parish brothers and sisters. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Gadsden and had previously served as Grand Knight and was a member of the Fourth Degree. He was a fantabulous husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, great- grandpa and just an all around great man. He will be profusely missed by all that knew him. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Burns and Robert Blood. Mike is survived by his bride, Brenda Bouley Blood; daughter, Kamille (Thomas "Cub") Culberson; sons, Jarrod (Deanna) Blood and Justin (Angela) Blood; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Culberson, Alana Blood-Slay, Eryn Blood, Annabelle Blood, Nathaniel Blood, Marybella Blood, Logan Blood, Ayden Blood, Anna Culberson, Amanda Gosdin, and Markus Robinson; adopted daughter Amanda Nelson Price; sisters Avon (Pat) Sulser, Wendy (Miles) Malachowski, Lara Blood; brother Robert (Geri) Blood; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, special friends, and brothers in the Knights of Columbus. Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly number 2051. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 3568 in Gadsden, Alabama. A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN VA Hospitals for the wonderful care that Mike has received over the last 16 years. The family requests that you please consider becoming an organ donor. Mike was a two time recipient. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9pm at Saint James Catholic Church.
