Melba Hildreth Hall passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the age of 93 years. Visitation will be from 1pm until 3pm on Tuesday, April 19th at Crestwood Funeral Home located on 2209 E Broad St, Gadsden, AL 35903, with a memorial/funeral service held following the visitation at 3:00 pm Tuesday. There will be no graveside service.
Mrs. Hall was born on October 1, 1922, in Chilton County, the first of eight children born to A.V. and Orell Northcutt. She attended public schools in Walker County (Gorgas, AL) and pursued a two year degree at Walker Junior College in Jasper, AL. She worked as a full time wife and mother to three boys. Mrs. Hall was secretary for the Holy Name of Jesus School of Nursing; and later worked in the office of Hofferbert and Ellis Architects as well as for Blain, Jones, Waldrop and Tucker Architects. Melba was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, White Springs Baptist Church and Twelfth Street Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for most of her adult life as well as a singer in the church choir and played piano for gospel quartets in her younger years. Melba's two favorite hobbies were painting and reading.
Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by her parents A.V. and Orell Northcutt, husband Ferris Whit Hall, youngest son Christopher Hall, brother Royce Northcutt, and sisters Nina Beasley and Freida McGaha. She is survived by her sons Ferris Hall (Lynda) and Randy Hall, brothers Buddy Northcutt and Barry Northcutt (Marie), sisters Norma Horton (Norman) and Jackie Teachworth, grandchildren Joy Harris (Jason), Emily Hewell, Philip Hall (Kaci), Stephanie Owen (Dustin) and Stephen Hall (Tiffany), as well as great grandchildren Mackenzie Harris, Madison Harris, Morgan Hewell, Riley Owen, Ryder Owen, Remmington Hall, Gemma Hall, Chris Hall, and Wesley Hall.
