Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Mazie Baker Starnes, age 89, of Gadsden, who went to be with her Lord and loved ones on Monday, November 10, 2008. The Rev. Bob Tant will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Starnes was born and raised in the Asbury Community in Marshall County. She was a resident of Gadsden for 67 years. She was a homemaker, avid gardener, but most of all, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.B. Starnes; her parents; one sister; and one brother.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son, John Starnes (Phyllis), of Gurley; daughters, Sally Croft (Bobby), of Glencoe, Myra Briand, of Hokes Bluff and Cathy Chandler (Damon), of Glencoe; grandchildren, Ginger Hayes, of Leesburg, Alyson Godfrey (Jeremy), of Hokes Bluff, Tyler Croft (Danya), of Smiths Station, Laura Chandler, of Monroe, N.C., Logan Chandler, Joshua and Wesley Starnes, all of Glencoe; great grandchildren, Savannah Hayes, Carter, Justin and Hannah Godfrey, Caleb and Christian Kimmons; brother, Glen Baker; sisters-in-law, Kearnie Starnes, Lois Starnes and Ethyl Baker; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and leaves behind her faithful pet, "Lady".
Pallbearers will be John Starnes, Bobby Croft, Damon Chandler, Tyler Croft, Logan Chandler and Jeremy Godfrey.
