Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Maude (Maudie B) Wheeler Howell, 95, Rainbow City, who died Friday, May 31, 2013. The Rev. Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Howell was a member of Coosa Valley Baptist Church in Rainbow City. She attended the Regency Pointe Chapel and was a member of the El Seor Club, Rainbow City Senior Citizens Club, Rainbow City Bridge Club, Gadsden Greeters and the Cameo Club. She retired from Goodyear with more than 31 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Howell Jr.; parents, Isaac Denford and Mattie Lou Wheeler; brother, William Hoyt Wheeler; and her daughter, Glenda Ann Higgins.
She is survived by her daughter, Jamie (Wayne) Payton; grandson, Jared Payton; sisters, Betty (William) Pruett and Dorothy Miller; several nieces and nephews; and her traveling companions, Stella Jenkins, Sarah Mitchell and Tula Talley.
Pallbearers will be Michael White, Jody Miller, Robert Williams, Jeffery Miller, Ken Cunningham and Bob Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmye Watford, who was with her at the end, and the staff and friends at Regency Pointe.
