IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mattie "Lou"
Baker
March 6, 1949 – December 8, 2023
Funeral Service will be at 3pm Wednesday, December 13, at Lakeview Baptist Church in Southside for Lou Baker age 74, of Southside. Mrs. Baker passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023. Bro. Tim Wells will officiate. Burial will be Thursday, December 14, at Rainbow Memorial Garden. Crestwood Funeral Home will direct services.
Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Lowery Baker; father James Daniel Moore; Mother Vera Dobbs Cantrell; sister Sherry Tatum; and brother James Norwood.
She is survived by her daughter Tisa (Brent) Lang; son; Joseph Baker; grandsons Andrew (Kate) Lang and Braden Lang; sisters Alice (Billy) Mathis and Janice (Jimmy) Tatum; brother Michael (Sharon)Norwood; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her special friends from Camp Bluebird and the ladies of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Baker was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. She was a loving and hard working mother that worked as many as three jobs at a time to provide for her family. She would get up and get her children ready for school, go pick up a school bus and drive a bus route, return her bus and go work in the lunchroom, run her afternoon bus route, go back to the school and do her duties as custodian. She usually didn't get home until after 8pm, yet she still came home and cooked supper for her family. She cared for each child that rode her bus as if it were own.
She was a devoted and involved member of Lakeview Baptist Church and loved her church family. She lived her life in a Christian manner, loving others like Jesus did. Throughout her battles with cancer she was continually kind and caring to all she came in contact with. She enjoyed going to Camp Bluebird, a retreat for cancer patients, and formed many strong bonds and lasting friendships with her fellow campers. She lived a simple life and loved everyone.
The family would like to to express their appreciation to the many people that cared for Mrs. Baker during her illness, especially to the doctors, nurses, and staff of third floor Cardiac Step Down Unit at Riverview Regional Medical Center, Robin Garrett, nurses Bridgett and Ashley, Joy Shanks, Southern Care New Beacon Hospice, Enhabit Health Care, Dr. Echeverri, Dr. Fernandez and his Assistant Paula, all that have prayed, and so many more that have helped Lou and her family through this journey.
The family will receive friends at Lakeview Baptist Church from 1 until the hour of service on Wednesday.
