Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Nelms Pope, age 81, of Gadsden passed away on December 10, 2020. Burial and a graveside service will be held on Saturday December 12, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Crestwood Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Pope will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Betsy was a graduate of the class of 1957 at Gadsden High School. Betsy loved Jesus. She was strong and capable, faithful and loving, humble and kind. Betsy was a life long member of East Gadsden United Methodist Church. She loved serving her Lord through her church. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, H.M. and Mary Lou Nelms, and her brother Larry Nelms.

Betsy is survived by her husband, James C. Pope Sr.; her children James C. Pope Jr. (Catherine) and Daniel Pope; her brothers Harry A. Nelms (Jo Etta) and Charles D. Nelms; grandchildren Elizabeth Pope, Emily Pope, and Jackson Pope.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Sherpherd's Cove Hospice, to the staff at Hematology and Oncology of North Alabama, the faith families at The Branches Gadsden and E. Gadsden United Methodist Church, and to special friend Mary Keener.
