Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mercy Hill Church for Mary Louise (Pearce) Cherry, 89, Gadsden, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016. Pastors Mike Hooks, Wally Kinsman and Jeff Underwood will officiate. Burial will follow at Rainbow Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Cherry was the daughter of Gorden and Lola Pearce. She was a charter member of Mercy Hill Church and was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene, for which she served as a treasurer for many years. She was a longtime employee of Elmore's and for Murphy's. As a Christian, Mrs. Cherry influenced the lives of many people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Cherry; daughter, Karen Elaine Cherry McKinney; and granddaughter, Kristin Downing Martin.
She is survived by her sister, June Naylor; daughters, Brenda Downing, Emily (Garlon) Griffith and Regina (Rickey) Gwin; grandchildren, Johnny Downing, Nikki (Shane) Sanford, Jason (Candice) Griffith, Tamessa (Roger) Compton, Todd (Leslie) Wood, Jimmy (Sarah) Wood, Ricky Gwin and Terry (Kristy) Gwin; special niece, Susie Blankenship; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary Coley, Johnny Downing, Jason Griffith, Todd Wood, Shane Sanford and Sam Lewis.
