Funeral Services were held Friday at Crestwood Chapel for Martha Scales James, age 90, Rainbow City, who died Wednesday July 14, 2010. Seth Coleman officiated. Burial was at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home directed service.
Martha was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. She retired from Goodyear after 35 years of service. She was a member of East Gadsden Methodist Church. Martha was the last of the legacy of seven children of Charlie and Cora Scales of Glencoe.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband Lamar James, parents Cora and Charlie Scales, sister Vera Mae Scales, brothers Elbert Vernon, Frank, Donald, and Bobby Scales.
She is survived by her nephew Harvey (Linda) Scales, Rainbow City; neice Debbie (David Sr.) Gunter, Glencoe; great nieces, to whom she was like a grandmother, Misty Scales Coleman, Rainbow City, Kristy (Clay) Scales Johnson, Hokes Bluff, and Stephanie Scales, Gadsden; Martha had 1 great great niece and 3 great great nephews.
In her later years, Martha enjoyed sitting on the porch in her rocker, watching the boats and the fishermen on the river. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
