Obituary

Margie Lee Shirley, formerly of Gadsden, AL, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017, after a brief illness. Margie was born in Pulaski, TN and raised her family in Gadsden before retiring to Montgomery, AL in 1997. She is preceded in death by her mother, El Reno Warren, husband, William "Billy" Shirley, and grandson, J.T. McLaughlin. Ms. Margie is survived by her son, Edward R. "Ed" Shirley (Karen); daughters, Stephanie Lockridge (Barry), Cindy Phillips (Anthony), and Kayla McLaughlin (Jim); grandchildren, Will Phillips (Sara Katherine), Lance Lockridge (Kristin), Seth Shirley (Lauren), JoAnna Person (Brett), Matthew Lockridge (Tiffany), Emily Mallette (Barkley), Molly, Sam, Mary Janet, and Thomas McLaughlin; and 11 great-grandchildren. She loved to read, play bingo and shop, but her favorite activity was being "Nana." She lived every day to the fullest surrounded by family and wonderful friends including Frances Williams, Mary Julia Freeman, Shelby Sassor, Myra York, Mary Thompson, Tracy Herring, and Mary Ford. Pallbearers will be her 6 grandsons. Special thanks to Dr. Glenn Yates, Dr. Steve Kwan, and the wonderful staff of the CVICU at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association. Visitation will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 15th at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden followed by a graveside service at 3:00 pm. Reverend Craig Carlisle will officiate.
