Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Margaret Payne, age 91, of Gadsden, who died on Monday, April 14, 2014. Revs. Daniel Barkley and Dave Roberts will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, W.B. Payne, together, the two lived in East Gadsden for over 60 years and raised 4 children; also preceded in death by her brother, Gene Thornton.
Margaret was a member of the Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family, no one ever left her house hungry. She will be greatly missed, but her family rejoices in knowing that she is now with her Heavenly Father.
She is survived by her sons, David (June) Payne, Corky Payne and Chris (Gina) Payne; daughter, Jane Matlock; grandsons, David (Carol) Payne, Ken (Leslie) Payne, Todd Payne, Barry (Dawn) Payne, Jeremy Todd Payne, Ben (Abby) Payne, Cody Payne, Matt Matlock, Lance (Kerrie) Bradley and Tyler Gunter; granddaughters, Dee Payne (Joe Kocur), Shanna Wright and Lisa Bradley (Matt Medders); 13 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Lawley Hospice, Gleaners Circle of the Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Lorraine Payne and a grand dog, Beasley.
Special thanks to her caregiver, Ms. Sadie McGinnis, employees of Lawley Hospice, especially Rhonda, Glenda and Barbie and to Ms. Louella of Comfort Keepers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
