Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Crestwood Chapel for Margaret W. Holmes, 73, of Wellington, who died April 3, 2014. The Rev. L. Dale Butler will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Garden. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct the service.
Margaret moved to Midway, Pa., in 1958 and married her husband, Don, on October 27, 1958. She worked at John J. Kane Hospital until her retirement. She returned to Gadsden in 1979. She came out of retirement to work at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, where she worked in the Nursery and Labor and Delivery. Margaret and Don spent their summers on Weiss Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.D. and Dolly Martin; brother, Lawrence Junior Martin; and daughter, Dolly Ann Holmes.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Ray Holmes Sr.; children, Janet (Roger) Mayben, of Jacksonville, Ala., and Dona (Sam) Gaudio, of Weirton, W.Va., and Donald Ray Holmes Jr. of Gadsden, Ala.; three grandsons; one step-grandson; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter; sisters, Shirley (Dave) Norman and Betty (Gary) Wilson; brother, James Richard (Sharon) Martin; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Her family will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are all friends at Driftwood Campground; Betty and Bill Woodall, Gail (and the late Paul) Vanco, Jan Bennett and Bobby and Faye Seay.
The family would like to express their special thanks to Alacare Home Health and Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the hour of service on Saturday. -
