Louise Braddy Gray
Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Crestwood Chapel for Louise Braddy Gray, 87, Glencoe, who went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009. The Rev. Phillip Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct. Louise was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. She was born on Dec. 23, 1921. After her graduation from Gadsden High School in 1938, she worked as a telephone operator for several years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Louise was a Christian witness to everyone who knew her. She made sure her family and friends knew about the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Louise walked with the Lord daily in prayer and Bible study. She was a member of First Baptist Church Glencoe for 60 years. Louise taught children's Sunday School, training union and sang in the choir for many years. She led backyard Bible schools and had a tract ministry through the church. Louise had a passion for missions. She sent Christian literature throughout the world. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Lonnie Braddy and his wife Jessie; her sisters, Julia Wolfe, Polly Lough, Myrt Doyal and Duene Vaughn; brothers, Gene and Lonnie Braddy; nieces, Betty Braddy Wilson, June Doyal and Joyce Robertson; nephews, Sonny Vaughn, Alvin Vaughn, Russell Vaughn and Jamie Wolfe; and special friends, Ruby Lee, Mary Penny and Billie Rains. She is survived by her loving family, husband of 64 years, Billy Gray; son, Rod Gray; daughter, Sherry Robey; granddaughter, Kimberly Blankenship and her children Hailey, Hunter and Harrison; grandsons, Keith Robey and Kristopher Robey (Angie), their daughter Malorie; chosen family member, Carolyn Snead; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Louise was filled with joy when her great-grandchildren came to visit. They always put a smile on her face. Pallbearers will be Tim Ball, Frankie Gaines, Stanley Cassidy, Mike Snead, Ken Laughlin, Mike Kirby, Sonny Kirby, Randy Acton, Arnold Walker, Mike Brown, Jerry Reeves and Brian Colegrove. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Hubbard and nephews, Steve Wolfe, Jimmy Braddy, Jerry Vaughn, Doc Vaughn, Andy Vaughn and Johnny Vaughn; and friends, Alan Hall, Barry Tolbert and Bill Lowman. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to missions through First Baptist Church Glencoe. Thanks to all our friends, family, and church family for your prayers, visits, cards, food and phone calls during Mother's time in the hospital. A special thanks to those who stayed with her while she was in the step-down unit at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She loved all of you very much. Visitation will be this evening from 5:30 until 7: 30 at Crestwood Funeral Home prior to the service.
