Obituary

Lois Plummer Buchanan 1931-2022
Lois Plummer Buchanan, a longtime resident of Anniston, passed away peacefully September 20, 2022, in Trussville. She was born on August 24, 1931 to Henry Charles Plummer and Alberta Boling Plummer. She attended Suttle High School where she was President of her Senior class. She continued her love of learning at Judson College in Marion, Alabama. While at Judson, she was on the Dean's list and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1953. She made many lifelong friends during these years, and she also met the love of her life, James Milton Buchanan, a student at Marion Institute. They began their life together on August 7, 1954, and were married for 35 years. During this time, they lived in several different cities, and she was always by his side as Milton continued his career with Alabama Power. She was a homemaker who did a wonderful job of ensuring that each new city became "home" to her family. She quickly became involved in the community, meeting new people and encouraging her
children to also make new friends. She was a terrific cook, and you could also count on there being some kind of tasty dessert in her house. She was truly the center of the home. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and all three of her daughters. Her talents were appreciated by many. While living in Anniston, she was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church. She was very active in her Sunday School class where she developed many deep personal friendships. She enjoyed keeping in touch and checking on these friends by phone and mail for
many years. She looked forward to watching the church services on television in her later years when she was unable to attend in person. She also served as a volunteer at the Regional Medical Center in Anniston. Her life was spent helping others. She was a lover of all animals, especially the family dogs. They were quite spoiled, and they always brought a smile to her face. She also took great care to be sure her hummingbirds were always fed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Gerald Plummer, Louis S. Plummer, and Charles R. Plummer, her husband of 35 years, James Milton Buchanan, and her son-in-law, David Earwood.
She is survived by her daughters Ann Earwood, of Trussville, Alabama, Kay Kingsley (Greg) of Katy, Texas, and Becky Byrne (Pat) of Mobile, Alabama, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Doris Passmore of Oxford, Alabama and Sue Gaddy of Selma, Alabama, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful nurses and caregivers with Compassus and Home Instead Senior Care who loved and cared for her during her final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider a donation in her memory to the Big Oak Boys and Girls Ranch, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, AL 35905.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 until 11 prior to the service. Dr. Mack Amis will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
