Linda Lu Mullinax Compton, age 68, passed away on August 18, 2020. Born on October 19, 1951 in Gadsden, Alabama, she attended Emma Sansom High School where she played the clarinet in the marching and concert bands. She graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor's degree in French. She later went on to achieve a Master's degree in Education from UAB following a successful career in real estate. She first sold residential real estate in Gadsden, and after moving to Birmingham, she worked for South Central Bell in their property division. Later in her career, she enjoyed working alongside her husband in the wholesale furniture business.
She was a faithful member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities during her long-time membership. She was also a member of the Ballet Guild of Birmingham and the Ladies' Golf Association of the County Club of Birmingham.
She loved golf, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends. She also volunteered her time and talents for many organizations and causes, but especially loved supporting girls' junior golf.
Mrs. Compton is preceded in death by her father, Orvial Thomas Mullinax of Gadsden, Alabama. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard Harrison Compton, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama; her daughter, Sara Elizabeth Compton McWhorter of Birmingham, Alabama; her mother, Sara Lu Brooks Mullinax of Gadsden Alabama; her son-in-law, Scott Daniel McWhorter of Birmingham, Alabama; her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Euclid Isbell Bullock of Southside, Alabama; and her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Jon Dean Hand, Mr. Michael Allen Brooks, and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Dani Bone of Gadsden, Alabama.
Friends are cordially invited to a celebration of her life on August 21, 2020 at 11:00am at Mountain Brook Baptist Church, immediately followed by a visitation. There will also be a live stream of the service online at www.mbbc.org/watch and on the church's Facebook page. A private graveside service will be held for the family in Gadsden.
