Funeral will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 13, at Crestwood Chapel for Lillian Marie Hampton of Gadsden, who went to be with Jesus April 9, 2011 at the age of 96 years 5 months, and 6 days. Rev. Darrell Brown will officiate. Burial will be at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
She was born Lillian Marie Bobo on November 3, 1914. The eldest daughter of James Pickney and Ada Kay Bobo, Marie lived most of her life in Etowah and Calhoun Counties and had retired from Classe' Ribbon Company in Anniston. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of Loyalty Sunday School Class in East Gadsden. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and had served as Past Matron of Elizabeth Spearman Chapter 81, Past Worthy Priestess of Judah Shrine #10, Past Noble Grand of the Rebekka Lodge #45. She retired from Classe' Ribbon Company in 1982 and returned to Gadsden and became a member of the El Senior Club.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband David L. Hampton, Jr.; parents J.P. and Ada Bobo; five brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by her nieces Evelyn Bell, Fort Payne, Sharon Simpson, Ohatchee, Judy Bobo, Ashville, and Kathryn Cannon, Gadsden; nephews Charles Baswell, Gadsden, Dwight Bobo, Rome, Ga., Billy Bobo, Hokes Bluff, and Tommy Morgan of Texas; several great and great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 until 7pm.
