Graveside services will be 3 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2028 at Crestwood Memorial
Cemetery, 2209 East Broad Street, in Gadsden, Alabama. Our precious dad, LEAHMAN EDWARD GARRARD, met his Lord and Savior on March 16, 2020. He was born in 1928 to Verma and Clyde L. Garrard in Glencoe, Alabama. Dad
lived 91 years and had a very blessed life. He joined the US Navy at the age of 17 and
served his country proudly for the next 20 years. He traveled the world and served
on the aircraft carrier the USS Kitty Hawk as Chief Petty Officer. After retirement from
the Navy he worked with the Birmingham News for 25 years. Leahman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 49 years, LeeDell Norwood
Garrard, and his sister, Evelyn Garrard Daugherty. He is survived by his three
daughters, Beverly Harlow, Deborah Self (Rodney), Teresa Novitski (Tom); four
grandsons, Dwain Francis (Amy), Dan Francis, Jason Novitski (Katie), Jeremy Novitski
(Heather), and one grand-daughter, Jennifer Wetherbee (Ed). He is also survived by
four great grandchildren, David, Luke Francis, Anna Lynn Francis, and Oliver
Wetherbee. Also surviving are his sister, Sue White, and his brother, Jim Garrard
(Teresa), and his sweet friend, Lois Clark. The family would like to thank the staff of The Columbia Cottages in Mountain Brook, Alabama for their care of our father for the past year. Leahman was a long-time member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama and a former Civitan and volunteered after retirement with the American
Red Cross.
. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you contribute to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 pm until the
time of service.
