Larry Gene Elam, 80 passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2022, after an extended battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held on, Monday, October 3, at 1:00 pm, at Angel Grove Baptist Church, 4404 Alabama Highway 204, Jacksonville, Alabama. Rev Jerry Starling, and Rev James Cohorn will officiate. Family will receive friends at the church from 11am until 1pm, prior to service. Burial to follow at Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden, Alabama. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Sue Jones Elam; son Eric (Deena) Elam, daughter Deanna (Tim) Connell; grandchildren; Jesse (Kelsey) Elam, Cody (Jackie) Aderholt, Brooke (Nathan) Hale; great-grandchildren, EmmaSue Elam, Duke Edward Aderholt, John-Davis Hale, and two due in October, Katy Lynn Elam, and Millie Rea Aderholt. Sister, Susan Elam (Jerry) Carlton, Woodbury, TN, Gary (Jane) Elam, Glencoe, David (Beverly) Elam, Trussville, AL, several niece and nephews. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama on July 16, 1942. He grew up in Glencoe,
Alabama, he graduated from Glencoe High School in 1960, and attended Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, AL. He was employed at Republic Steel Corporation, Gadsden, Alabama as a Machinist, before accepting a position at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, Gadsden, Alabama as a Millwright, where he was employed for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Ruby Elam, maternal grandfather, Jesse A. Sims, paternal grandparents, John and Martha Elam, Quitman, Mississippi, and in-laws Verner and Donna Jones. He is a member of Angel Grove Baptist Church, Jacksonville, AL where he served
as a Deacon.
Pallbearers will be: Cody Aderholt, Jesse Elam, Tommy Richard, Jesse Elam, Tim Connell, Nathan Hale, Kenneth Welch, and Brenton Harden.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at Angel Grove Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff of Hope Hospice for the special care that Larry received, and especially to Ashley & Sharon.
