November 25, 1940 – April 1, 2025
Kenneth Wayne Newton, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025. A funeral service will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Hokes Bluff.
Kenneth was a 1959 graduate of Ashville High School, where he played football. He later found joy in coaching little league baseball and was affectionately known as "Coach." He was employed at Goodyear in Gadsden for 30 years and was a devoted member of Bachelors Chapel Baptist Church in Hokes Bluff. His hobbies included gardening, golf, wood working, and cheering for Alabama football. Above all, Kenneth was a proud and loving pawpaw. He and his beloved wife shared 43 wonderful years of marriage.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Myrtle Newton; his brothers, Val Newton of Weaver and Gus Newton of Ashville; and his sister, Judy Hammond of Steele.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Newton; sons, Ken (Linda) Newton and Dan (Dana) Newton; daughter, Cheryle Newton; stepdaughter, Cindy Smith; stepson, Keith McCreight; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Jester, Devon Jester, Jake Campbell, Blake Green, Gary Hunt, and Keith Newton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Jester, Hunter Green, and Keith McCreight.
A special thanks to Taylor, Tammy, Penny, and Carol of Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care.
