Funeral will be held at 3:30 PM, Tuesday, November 17th, 2015, at Crestwood Chapel for Katie Pendley, 81, of Ball Play, who passed away on Sunday, November 15th, 2015. Minister Kevin Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Pendley was born and raised in Gadsden, AL. For 24 years of her life she was a military wife, traveling within the United States and to Germany. She was a housewife and stay at home mom until later in life where she worked at Health-Tex and EMCO for 20 plus years. She had a fighting spirit, tough as nails her family would say. That's how she survived having cancer three different times and several other health issues. Anyone who met her said she was a sweet lady and enjoyed being around her. She is loved so very much and will be missed greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Omer Pendley; parents, Claud and Ola Thompson; and brother, James Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Wanda (David) Morris, Gene Pendley, Sheila (Phillip) Stansell, and James (Deana) Pendley; grandchildren, Sheila (Bobby) Bozarth, David (Courtney) Morris, Jr., Michael Foshee, Nathaniel (Bree) Foshee, Jennifer Pendley, Cindie (Justin) Wood, Lyndsey Pendley, and Shon Pendley; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Tom (Susie) Thompson; sisters, Linda Pendergraft and Claudia Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice for the special care they gave her over the past four years.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM on Tuesday until the time of the service.
