Obituary

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Crestwood Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Kathleen Melton Kennington, 91 of Hokes Bluff, who went to be with her Savior and loved ones on
March 19, 2014. The Rev. Darrell Brown will officiate, delivering the eulogy will be her niece, Kathy Bucks and former student, Tim Sims. Entombment will be at Crestwood Mausoleum. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Mrs. Kennington was born near Lexington, TN but has been a resident of Gadsden for almost 64 years. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1951. She taught children's Sunday school, was a WMU leader and was a member of the Senior's XYZ. She was a teacher at Hokes Bluff Elementary from 1970-1987. She was a member of the Hokes Bluff Tawannah Lions Club, Hokes Bluff Senior Friends, and Gadsden Regional Hospital Senior Circle. She was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. Mrs. " K and Kat" as many called her was known for being a prayer warrior.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert W. Kennington: and son, Bob Kennington.
She is survived by her grandson, R. Jack Kennington of Tullahoma, TN; her beloved great grandchildren, Keris, Zach, and Rob Kennington all of Calhoun, GA; sisters, Janie Richardson, Jo Barnes, and brother Billy Melton; sister in law's Beverly(Gene)Bennett, Mary Helen Virgo, Doris (Bill) Cardwell; and a host of special cousins, nephews, and nieces; and long- time best friends Mevolene Vassar and Nancy Kennington Turner.
Pallbearers will be Zach and Rob Kennington, Russ Richardson, Tim Richardson, Roger Melton and Bubba Smedley.
Special thanks to those who cared for and loved Mrs. "K", honorary pallbearers are: Myra Vance, Bubba and Gina Smedley, Elaine Kirkpatrick, Delana Franklin, Pat Millbocker, Bro. Brown, Alex Bass, the team at Gentiva Hospice, especially R.N. Michelle Hasse and Sara Gatlin,and Dr. Allison Vann.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to: the Kennington Kid's College Fund at any Regions Bank location or to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2036, Gadsden, AL 35903.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home.
