Julio Herrera Gutiérrez of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico passed away in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday July 12, 2023 after a short illness.
Don Julio was born on January 9, 1944 in Canelas, Durango, Mexico. Don Julio met his wife, Evangelina in Canelas in 1961. They were married for 52 years, from June 20, 1962 until her death in 2014. Theirs was a lifelong love affair during which they raised a family of 7, loved their 20 grandkids, and 7 great grandchildren all while dancing, enjoying good food, and helping others in their community. Catholicism was very important to him; Don Julio and Evangelina were dedicated members of San José de Los Poetas and San Alfonso.
In addition to his wife, Don Julio was predeceased by his parents Rafael "Papa Jay" Herrera Jaquéz and Juana "Mama Juanita" Gutiérrez Diaz and sister.
Don Julio is survived by his children Martina "Titi" (Gabriel) Hernández Herrera, Juan Manuel (Socorro) Herrera Morales, Pedro
Antonio (Susana) Herrera Morales, Erasmo (Luz) Herrera Morales, Julio Ernesto "Teto" Herrera Morales, Evangelina Irene "Eva" (Gustavo) Casillas Herrera, Rosa Emma "Rosy" (Omar) Delgado Herrera; grandchildren Aldo Gabriel (Viviana "Vivy") Hernández Herrera, Xchel Orlando Hernández Herrera, Osmar Ulises Hernández Herrera, Leonardo André Hernández Herrera, Edú Rafael (Diana) Herrera Rios, Emmanuel (Karla) Herrera Ríos, Alejandra Abigail Herrera Rios, Lizeth Guadalupe Herrera Rios, Julio Antonio (Zaira) Herrera Vargas, Jessica (Fernando) Herrera Melo, Joel Eduardo Herrera Vargas, Aaron Jacob Herrera Vargas, Fernanda Monserrat (Gabriel) Herrera Spieler, Erasmo Carlos Herrera Vera, Dayana Herrera Alvarez , Cristian Herrera Alvarez, Viridiana Herrera Alvarez, Gustavo Missael Casillas Herrera, Linette Sinai Casillas Herrera, Romina Delgado Herrera; great grandchildren Sofia Gabriela Hernández Vivas, Mauricio Jared Hernández Vivas, Nicolás Herrera Zavala, Luna Dánae Herrera Morales, Benjamin Saul Melo,
Eric Fernando Melo, y Damian Luis Melo. He is also survived by his 11 sisters, 3 brothers and 46 nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Crestwood Chapel Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 3pm until 9pm. Rosary service will be at 4pm. Don Julio will be return to Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico for additional services and burial.
